DAYS 71-72 FROM SOUTH TO NORTH - TOP END (NORTHERN TERRITORY) TRIP

5-6 July 2010

MATERANKA

From Cental Arnhem Highway we headed back into civilisation and Stuart Highway. We made our way to Mataranka for a relax at the Hot Springs. We were here exactly 40 days ago. Couldn’t believe how fast the time has flown.

It was time to do some washing and to relax.

It was a hot and sticky night. In the morning it started to rain just as breakfast was being made.

AFter breakfast I finally had the chance to enjoy being in Never, Never Country. We visited the replica of Elsey Homestead.

It is so small inside. It helps to visualise life back in 1902 - the real basics of living. Back then no trappings of what we now consider to be essential items. I felt the contrast was really evident with our Oka parked right next to it carrying a much more comfortable way of life than could have been imagined back then.

Then after refuelling at Mataranka we were on our way on the final section of the trip – the Gulf country – Savanah Way.
