TRIP to CANNING STOCK ROUTE DAY 23 - CSR

4 July 2012

STAGE 3 CSR Day 2

NORTH POOL, WELL 2, WILUNA (120km)

What a lovely place to wake up in. Kangaroos, birds and yabbies in the yabbie pot. I had my first taste of yabbies and YUM.

We made our way up to Well 2 past another Canning Stock Route sign.

Well 2 is still in working order.

When the break is up water was running into the tank. Good drinking water here.

The remains of a drinking trough was nearby.

A dry creek bed where gold prospecting was once undertaken a short distance away.

We then made our way back to Wiluna via the cemetery.

We visited the grave siites of some who were associated with the Canning Stock Route. The Ned Kelly headstone was a standout.

We also visited the grave site of the last two namds who came out of the desert. There is a statue of them at the main entry to Wiluna from Kalgoorlie.

It is a well looked after cemetary. What didn’t sit confortably with me was the fact that their was a seperation in the cemetary to where whites and aboriginals were laid to rest.

We filled up with fuel, made phone calls and checked emails as it will be several weeks before we can access these services.

We all decided to have lunch at the local takeaway that does a good hamburger with the lot.

Last shower tonight for a while.
