DAY 24 EUROPE TRIP
LITHUANIA – Vilnius Region
Another interesting and busy day.
A walk through another ‘draustinis’, visits to a restoration site and to the oldest bell tower in Lithuania, a concert and a lovely barbeque.
Our first stop was the Vornikų Pažinties Takas – a path through a very interesting forest area.
The walk covered different types of forests.
You walk through birch tree area
oakwoods, fir tree area, pine area,
low and high swamp areas.
The path again had very informative bilboards that raised awareness of endagered plant species.
We thoroughly enjoyed the walk. From here we went to Tiškevičiaus Užutrakių Dvara near Trakai. Along the way we saw quite a number of stork nests.
The 19th century manor is currently under restoration.
The grounds are beautiful.
Some elements of the original gardens have survived.
From here one gets a different view of Traku Island Castle that we visited a few days ago.
As we walked around we had to be careful to avoid lots of little frogs along the paths.
Finally we decided to go and see the oldest bell ‚Semeliskiu Varpa‘ that had beed dedicated to the Grand Duke Vytautas. The belltower was closed so we could only see it in the distance.
After a short rest we got ready to go to the end of year concert for Arturo Noviko Jazz Music School. The concert participants ranged from absolute littlies to an adult group Jazz Island. It was a very professional and entertaining concert.
We ended the evening with a realxing barbeque. The days are very long – It is still daylight at 11.00pm. This means there is a lot of time to relax and enjoy the days if the weather is fine.
