DAY 48 EUROPE TRIP - LITHUANIA – Vilnius – Song Festival

3 July 2009

A quieter day today. We had to choose again between two events. We chose to go to a concert that featured the lithuanian folk instrument kankles (zither family instrument) concert „Skambekite Kankles“ at St John’s Church.  This was a much smaller event.

Most of the performers on the kankles were of the female gendre.

Again the performers covered all generations singing and playing the folk instrument.

The music was diverse ranging from traditional folk music, to arrangements of folk songs to beautifully composed pieces for voices and kankles.

As the concert was not that late it was a lovely evening when we spilled out of the church

And made our way down Pilies Street enjoying the buskers and atmosphere of the old town.
