DAY 109 Pilbara – Kimberley Trip
BROKEN HILL towards WENTWORTH
This morning it wasn’t that cold. So off we went exploring in Broken Hill. Broken Hill has so much to share with others coming through. The question is how do you fit it all in and enjoy it without feeling you have over done it and are no longer able to absorb what you are seeing.
So we went off to see the ‘Images of Australia’ photographic gallery that presents the photographs and photo montages of Boris Hlavica. He’s captured some lovely scenes. The photo montages are very interesting. Then onto Eric McCormick’s Gallery to find it closed – how frustrating. Julie Hart’s gallery was of interest as her work is greatly influenced by her father. Her work has lot of similiarity to that of her father’s but the colours she uses have a different vibrancy. We dropped in to Dee’s Studio and then on to d’Art Domain. The work here was fabulous. He takes a theme to the enth degree by working with it on canvas, then lino prints and wood sculptures. His wood sculptures were fabulous. After lunch we went to ‘Photographic Recollections’ – an historical photo display of the history of Broken Hill. Well worth a visit. Whilst there we got an ‘urgent’ call. Our granddaughter who is 2½ insisted that her mother dial us ‘now’. She didn’t tell her mother the reason but as soon as she got us on the phone she got her message through to us nice and clear. She is getting fed up waiting for us as she wants to go skiing with her Bočius (grandfather) and he is not there yet. Her parents have even put up a chart to mark off how many sleeps before we get back. Today she demanded to talk to us and told me, and then my hubby, in no uncertain terms that we need to hurry up and get back. She had rung us the day before to ask when we were coming and I had told her’ in seven sleeps’. Seven sleeps must be along way away to her. It is nice to know we are being missed.
So after looking around the photo display we have continued on our way back east on the road to Wentworth. The scenery varied from flat plains with barely any scrub
to patches of water from the recent rains alongside the road
and some areas low trees.
We have camped at Anabranch Bridge Rest Area.
One last comment about Broken Hill – I wish they had street signs. So many of the streets had no signs. This was very frustrating whilst navigating around Broken Hill.
